My new favourite word is esoteric.
I just learned it.
It is an adjective which means, "understood or meant for only the select few who have special knowledge or interest".
Dear English professor:
I don't believe that I can write an essay on this poem because of the esoteric images, metaphors, and allusions it contains. Unfortunately, I am not one of the select few who are meant to be in on the literary inside joke that the author is making. Thank you.
