Not Friends Anymore

I've been thinking back to what life was like for me around this time last year. Most things are the same, but a couple of them have changed. Certain relationships that I have are so different now then they were a year ago. When I think about some friendships that have grown apart for me over the years, it really doesn't make me sad. Other ones I really miss right now, but I'm not totally sure why. I miss the ones that have no hope of being close again because things have just changed. I think that the part that is hard is the fact that you know that you were really close with someone, now you aren't, and you will never be again.

I Wear the Pants

Corduroy Pants are a dream. They are quite possibly the most comfortable things that one can wear besides pyjama bottoms. I got a pair of them to wear on non-jean days at work and I don't think I am ever going to take them off.

Centaurs

Can women be centaurs? They always seem to be men in the pictures and movies. I'm going to have to fashion myself some appropriate clothing to go with these horse legs. Say "Aye!" if you think that there is something oddly attractive about Mr. Tumnus.

I Am A Centaur

You Are a Centaur

In general, you are a very cautious and reserved person.
However, you are also warm hearted, and you enjoy helping others in practical ways.
You are a great teacher, and you are really good at helping people get their lives in order.
You are very intuitive, and you go with your gut. You make good decisions easily.

Canada Post

I mailed some letters today. I walked by two mailboxes before I put them in one.

The first mailbox was faded, the stickers were peeling off, and it was covered in grafitti. The next one was a little tipped over. Neither of them were trustworthy, so I kept walking until I found a reputable mailbox. Even when I found "the one", it was kind of hard to just leave the letters and know 1. that nothing would happen to them before the mailperson picked them up 2. that he or she would, in fact, pick them up and 3. that they will make it to the right house in 2-3 business days. It all comes down to having faith in the system, I suppose.

I believe in the Canada Post.

Yikes!

The Scariest Moments of my Life:
3. The Grand Scare of the Coffee Cup.

2. Walking into a room and Josh saying "Helllllllooooo Jessie!!" from inside a closed closet which was right beside me.

Fire

Josh and I were in the family room listening to songs on the computer. I heard this crackling sound outside. I asked Josh what it was, and he said it was raining. A couple hours later, the crackling got louder and I didn't see any rain out the window. I peered out the window (turning my head to the far right).

I saw a really really big
bonfire in my back yard.

My landlord, Mr. Louis, was burning massive amounts of kindling and wood. Josh and I went outside to look at it. This fire was twice as tall as me, really big around, and the sparks were going as high as the tips of the trees! It was the biggest fire I have ever seen in my life! You couldn't stand more than 4 or 5 metres away from it because it was just too hot. It was also in my backyard, which is quite woodsy and surrounded by a lot of trees. A lot of trees right next to a gigantic fire. I don't even think I possess the ability to make a fire this big. Mr Louis is a really good fire-maker. If my mom were home, she would have freaked out at him. Perhaps this whole thing wasn't legal.

Josh and I were in awe so we pulled up some lawn chairs and just watched it for awhile.

Notable quotes:
Josh- You could sleep out here by this fire, and be really warm all nite! You could sleep out here naked and there's like No WAY you'd ever get cold!

Josh- Jessie!!! The fire just changed colours!
Jessie- What?
Josh- It went from
yellow...to ORANGE

Where Are You Christmas?

Every year, I wait to get in the Christmas mood. It seems like there is this little switch inside me that must be turned on, and after it is, I'm in the Christmas spirit for the rest of the season. I wonder what will initially make me excited for Christmas this year. I don't remember what last year's moment was.

It is important for me to feel Christmasy. In my family, I am the one that decorates the house for Christmas. Josh is too lazy (other than to rearrange the manger scene so the animals are on top of the wisemen's heads and so the shepherd boy looks like he is peeing in the corner of the stable) and mom isn't a big fan of the commercialism of Christmas. It's all up to me. I don't mind it though. I've become good friends with our real-looking, artificial tree. I like being the spreader of Christmas cheer.

Another thought. How is it that we listen to the same Christmas songs each year without getting sick of them? Will I like the traditional carols as much as I do now when I am 80? I fear I will not.

"A man is always never cries"

My paper actually said this, pre-proofread.

Tired

When I get tired, I get annoyed easily.

Today is a good example of this:
1. Two guys sitting directly behind me on the bus were talking at the top of their lungs in a foreign language. I almost blew out my ear drums trying to drown them out with my music.

2. Drawing my lab pictures was really hard today. I couldn't get them right or detailed enough. I wanted to find the person who wrote the lab manual and burn it in front of them.

3. On the bus ride home, this guy kept nodding off beside me. Every time his head drifted in my direction, it bugged me. It was a good thing that his head didn't drift to my shoulder. Bad things would have happened.

A couple bright spots in my day were:
1. The Goo Goo Dolls
2. my DG (discipleship group)
3. Blue Like Jazz- I am loving this revolution of sarcasm in Christian literature :)
4. my puppy
5. my chicken pizza

To do before Friday is done:
1. revise a paper
2. write a paper
3. write a lab report
4. work on Friday nite

Things to look forward to:
1. The Halifax parade of lights on Saturday
2. Sleeping

And Done!

I finished my paper at 4:45am. It's passed in, and I'm pretty pleased with it. It's about the Haitian Revolution.

After my mom came in the computer room early this morning, an event I like to refer to as the Grand Scare of the Coffee Cup (see entry below), I made myself a plate of french fries and that made me feel better.

Scared

Would I be considered too jumpy if my mom silently comes in to the computer room in the middle of the night (1:30 am) when I am writing a paper about voodoo, stands right behind me, says my name and I scream? My heart hurts. I don't think my blood pressure will ever return to normal.

In case you are wondering what pressing thing she had to tell me...she said, "Jessie, that's too much coffee mix to put in your cup." I left a cup with coffee mix in it on the counter because I didn't feel like waiting for the water to boil. I was generous with the amount of coffee I put in the mug.

I want to cry.

Fall

You Are Apple Cider

Smooth and comforting. But downright nasty when cold.

Morgan's MSN History

i couldn't even get a good look at his lips from the pic. i absolutely CANNOT go on a date with a guy if i haven't seen his lips up close.

i've become very good at giving vague answers that make it sound like i know what i'm talking about.

i got a black purse tonight. i am very impressed with my purse finding skills. i feel like i have passed some right of passage into womanhood.

eeww. i hate periods. do you find that when you're on your period and someone mentions the word, but in the context of punctuation, you're more sensitive to it?

i tried to think of another language i could say it in, but then i realized i don't know any other languages.

since i flatly refuse to wear something that looks like a cheap print of a meadow was blown up on a piece of fabric, i found nothing. so i came home and regrouped.

i feel that i have a potentially fatal attack of the lower right rib coming on, and it will be aggravated by any sort of reading.

i want to boycott money and jobs- i think north america should return to the bartering system.

i will dream of our road trips as loose lips barnhill and jones.

Blast from the Past

The other day, I was in the mood to atmospherize before my quiet time with God. I found a tape that has instrumental hymns on it and lit a candle. As I was reading and reflecting, something happened to the tape. The music cut out and there was static. My own voice came singing through the speakers. As it turns out, in junior high, I taped over almost all of side B with little 20 second clips of me singing random songs. I just sat there listening to song after song, not knowing which one would come next. There were a lot of old school Christian songs-Out of Eden, Sonic Flood, Marymary. After 6 or 7 of those kind of songs, I heard this: "Oops, I did it again. I played with your heart, got lost in the game. Oh baby, baby. Oops, you think I'm in love, that I'm sent from above...I'm not that innocent."

*Sigh. My dear, dear 14 year old Jessie :).

Megha's MSN History

some issues are uncomfortable to talk about, especially those of dubious legality.

when i cook, i always spend a few hours just contemplating about my presentation. thinking about colours, dressing, garnishes, shapes, sizes.

did the kissy kissy happen?

ew. diapers. i don't even know how to change one. i really can't handle babies. they scare me. like if i'm left alone in a room with a baby, i will FREAK out.

i was wondering if heaven had internet access or not.

i really can't stand country music. it hurts me. physically.

do you think it would be very irresponsible of me to stay awake all night watching veronica mars?

this anglo-saxon names always confuse me. why can't they be straight-forward like Anand or Priya?

if someone said "you can run, you can hide, but you can't escape my love" to me, i'd go and get a restraining order immediately.

every girl needs a european romance at least once in her life. its only natural.

this time i'm gonna win, i know it. i really feel like its my lucky day - i'm wearing clean underwear, i took a shower, i didn't have a nosebleed - all signs point towards victory.

ok, i need to shower because i smell like that box in the back of the storeroom that was placed there when you moved in, and then a water pipe burst over it and you never bothered to move it so it grew green things and attracted bugs. i stink. so i shower. to make the stink go away.

my period lasts longer than most lifespans.

i wuv my wittle jessie-wessie. despite her questionable taste in men.

That Basketball Was Like a Basketball to Me!

I just got home from my very first Dal bball game. I have loved the sport every since I was in grade 3 and started playing in a girl's league. I did NOT go just to admire the players ;). Dal was playing the Athletes in Action, a Christian sports ministry team from the States. Dal won, but it was really close! One of the guys shared his testimony at half time, and it shared the Gospel in a non-hokey way, which I appreciated :). I guess the team spent some time today with the Dal guys too. Sports ministry is a cool idea, I like it.

During the game, Amarea and I came to some personal conclusions about the practice of butt slapping.
1. The Athletes in Action guys all did it during the game.
2. The Dal guys just gave pats on the back, and high (or low) fives.
3. It's ok for guys to do, if they are playing sports.
4. It's not ok for girls to do, when they are playing sports, because that's just weird.

I still think that butt slapping is a little weird, maybe it's an American thing.
