I went to the gym this morning. The gym at the Stadium is wonderful because most of the machines have their very own mini TV mounted on them. I usually watch a music station. Unfortunately, there were television shows on MuchMusic and BET so I was stuck on MuchMoreMusic (which doesn't always play good exercise tunes). MuchMoreRetro came on. I cringed and waited for some old music video and a song that I didn't want to hear. The first two were songs were by the Spice Girls and Destiny's Child. They are oldies these days. Sweeeeet.
Favourite movie right now: Surf's Up
my very special spot to talk about a bunch of things in my life that 1. are true 2. matter to me, and 3. aren't so personal that they shouldn't be on the internet

Caaaamping
I went camping at Risser's beach with some student leaders from C4C and here are some notables from the trip:
1. The BSB will always be close to my heart.
2. The Comfort Station (C Stat) is a girl's best friend.
3. The ocean is my favourite place to be.
4. Marianna and I slept on the beach under the stars!
5. I love it when parts of devotionals/sermons feel like they are just for me.
6. There is nothing funner to talk about around the fire than love and relationships.
7. Amarea tried to send a text that said something like, "I really, REALLY want to have your babies" to me and it went to Peter (her boyfriend) instead.
I'm looking forward to this school year.

Is This Going to be Scary? No.
Jessie and a boy sit down to watch a movie together.
Jessie hasn't seen the movie before.
Boy has and won't tell Jessie what the movie is about.
Boy assures Jessie that she'll like the movie.
The movie turns out to be a scary, gory movie.
Jessie peeks out from under her blanket for most of it,
but has to finish it to find out how it ends.
This familiar pattern happened today at the beach with a friend (Ryan) who subbed for one of my regular lifeguards. This is the only reason I have seen movies like Saw or Silent Hill. You'd think I would have learned my lesson by now.

Days of My Beach
Here's the story. I think it's time to explain what happened and clear up any rumours of duck poop-itis ;).
Our beach closed and we sat on the sand telling people not to go in the water for 3ish weeks. They told us we were relocating. We were relocated for a day.
Then we went back to Kinsmen for a week because no beach needed us.
Then we were relocated for good. I worked 3 days at Silversides, a beach really close to my house.
Then I got a call today while at that beach saying that we've reopened. I spent this afternoon at Kinsmen. The lake is clean. At least that's what they tell us. I'm going to try not to touch the water for the rest of the summer. Putting in buoys tomorrow might make this goal a little tricky.

I Just Called to Say I Love You...
My mom and I share a cell phone plan. She pays for it and I hope that she doesn't notice when I go over on my minutes or send a couple extra text messages. It's a pretty sweet deal. After a moment of reflection on July, I realized that I sent a lot of text messages since I've been at the beach. She got the bill today.
She called the cell phone support line and asked them to explain them to her why our bill was so much this month. Some of it was her fault. She went over on her minutes and made a long distance call. However, some of it was my fault. Here's what her conversation sounded like.
-Can you explain all of these charges to me?
-What!?! That much for one long distance call??
-You know sir, I tried to set up some long distance and they told me...
-(turning to me) Jessie!! WHAT is a text message??
-How many?
-128?!?!?
-And how much does it cost per text letter? I mean, text message.
-15 cents per message. Mmmmhmmm.
I told her I'd pay for all my extra text message charges. Mom continued to talk to the guy about the different plans that they have. She found a new plan that would save us some money. I stood by her during the entire conversation. She looked at me, smirked.
-Yes. That's a good idea!
She disabled my text messaging.
For a total of 45 seconds.
She called them back and I now have unlimited text messages starting at the end of August. She cracked pretty quickly and I felt like I was 13 again.

Stay-Elisa
This is my new "played over and over" song. I've felt these words (in some way or another) lately and in the past. I have a feeling that I'm going to get sick of this song soon. I don't know why I overplay songs like this :).
You did not dare say a single word
I did not dare ask for something more
I’ve kept my questions secret deep inside
But I wish I could have let you know about
A time when I would have said
Wait, and please stay
Did you mean to push me away?
Please wait and just stay
Did you want it to be this way?
Would you want to know what I've been through?
(Through all this time... all this time)
Would you want to know I have missed you too
(And I have you on my mind)
And you've been and you will be a part of me
(That I can't find)
And you've been forgiven for your silence
All this time when I would have said
Wait, and please stay
Did you mean to push me away?
Please wait and just say
Is there a way that could replace
The times you never said
How've you been?
Do you need anything?
Want you to know I'm here?
Want you to feel me near?
Yeah...and I hope, I hope that you will find your way
Yeah...and I hope, I hope there will be better days
You did not dare say a single word
I did not dare ask for something more
I’ve kept my questions secret deep inside
But I wish I could have let you know about

Sweet Weekend!
Thursday
I went to a lifeguard social event organized by our area. It was supposed to be extreme capture the flag at Oakfield. 6 girls showed up. We decided to skip the physical activity business and go cliff jumping instead at Laurie Park. I counted the nite as 30 physical points. That's the equivalent of going for 4 runs :)...
Friday
I woke up early for a mother/daughter day trip to Chester and Hubbards. We looked at cute shops and walked on the beach in the clouds. Then it was time for dinner at mom's favourite tavern. Yes. She likes the tavern. Such a pub crawler. My mother. It was nice to spend time together.
Saturday
Saturday was wedding day! A girl from the pool got married. I went with a guy from the pool. My "boyfriend". See old entry. I had a very cute time. Weddings always make me think about what I want for my own wedding. I prefer pianos to organs. I'm also going to try to get away with not having any elevated language in my wedding ceremony. Like no "thee"s and stuff like that. That nite, Josh and I went to the Tree63 concert. Free tickets care of Jean Brunet. It was really good. It has left me with some things to think about and work through. That doesn't usually happen at a concert. It was also so timely for Josh- just what he needed to hear.
Sunday
The day that I'd been waiting for...Cirque du Soleil!!! Saltimbanco. Beautiful. Captivating. Gripping. Enchanting. Entertaining. I loved it. Soooo much.

And the Winner Is...
Well...it appears that my pick for the winner of So You Think You Can Dance did not win. Sabra won. I'm happy with the results. I hope that no one has lost their life savings on my account.

Updata
My student loan came in. This makes my heart peaceful. I love the government so much. I might go and kiss the loan office building in Halifax next time I'm in the city.
My boss is moving me and the lifeguards at my beach around to other locations for the rest of the summer. Beaches where people actually lifeguard swimmers.
So You Think You Can Dance ends this week. It's on tonite, Wednesday, and Thursday. I'll have a winner prediction soon. My prediction was right last year. So feel free to bet your money on my choice. You can't lose. It's like money in the bank.

Girls Rule...
I noticed a 7 year old girl carrying a baby doll at the beach the other day. This is normal. Girls always play with dolls. I had dolls when I was younger and I loved them. I took care of them. Cabbage Patch dolls. Water babies. Can't get much better. However, something hit me. By giving girls pretend babies, our society trains girls to be mothers as soon as they are old enough to know that babies need to be taken care of. In this case, at the age of 7. Yikes.

Notable Quote
During So You Think You Can Dance tonite:
Josh: "Oh my. That just gave me shivers."
Jessie: "You are such a woman."
Josh: "NO I'M NOT!!!!!"
Maybe you had to be there...

What Makes Me Different?
As a Christian, I want to be different from the people that I'm with everyday. I suppose it's because I want Christ to shine in me and I want other people to be attracted to Him through me. Someone who lives to serve God should be different than someone who doesn't. What really makes a Christian different on the outside?
I don't want to be known as the nice, good girl. In fact, I consciously try not to be that girl. I think you can obey the Bible and still have fun. Good girls don't seem to have fun. However, sometimes I take my mission to be a cool Christian a little far. When I do, my behaviour doesn't glorify God. I'm working on it. Maybe I'd like to be known as the girl who has peace about the future and confidence in Christ. I'm not always peaceful about the future. Confidence in Christ then.
Back to my original thought. Many people who aren't Christians are nice, good, patient, loving, joyful, gentle, self-controlled. So how are we really different to people looking at us? My pastor talked about this on Sunday. I'm still thinking through it. He was saying that the difference is the motivation behind our Christian behaviour. Christ. How do people know what our motivation is? If we don't tell them, I guess we aren't really different.
I'm realizing that I'm still figuring out who I actually am. Like my sense of self. Knowing how I react in certain situations and what I think about things. I suppose that's the process that people my age go through.
I want to be sure of myself at the end of all this. I think I will be eventually.
